Position Summary Cytotechnologist II – Digestive Health Institute, Downtown Orlando. The Cytotechnologist II examines slides microscopically to detect abnormal or atypical cells that may be present. Responsibilities Microscopically examine human cellular samples in accordance with departmental procedures and policies. Prepare specimens for rapid on‑site cytologic exam (ROSE). Stage resection and dissection specimens for histological assessment. Consider clinical history, mark pertinent findings, and make preliminary cytologic interpretation in consultation with an attending pathologist. Follow pathology reports and communicate with endoscopists and pathologists when discrepancies arise between onsite and final interpretations. Liaise with outside facilities when specimens are sent for expert adjudication and report back to endoscopists. Perform and document all quality control and preventive maintenance procedures. Perform quality control checks. Assist in research projects and perform duties such as teaching endoscopy staff and visiting trainees. Provide interpretation of special test results, such as assessment of mucosal biopsies on‑site, to aid endoscopist intra‑procedure decision‑making. Maintain a research database for endoscopic specimens procured at EUS, ERCP, and document research‑related data (preferred). Use telepathology for emergency consultations. Use digital analysis for tissue quantification and categorization for research. Perform specimen receiving and processing. Regularly report all abnormal findings to the cytopathologist and patient caregiver as required. Assume one or more of the following responsibilities: projects, teaching, technical in charge, and evaluation of new technology. Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and federal, state, and local standards. Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Maintain proper inventory of supplies. Maintain an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program, including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators. Follow established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Practice infection control and safety practices, keeping a clean and organized work area. Maintain confidentiality of patient records, hospital, and departmental matters at all times. Work with laboratory staff to address clinical issues promptly. Coordinate with the Manager to implement quality improvement initiatives. Participate in live symposiums both in procedure rooms and in off‑site laboratory teaching settings (preferred). Assist endoscopists with drafting manuscripts, particularly on ROSE and related matters (preferred). Qualifications Graduate from an approved school of Cytotechnology; Bachelor’s degree in science or Cytotechnology. Current license as a Cytotechnologist in the State of Florida; renewed biennially in August. Certified Cytotechnologist (ASCP); renewed annually. Passed research, ethics, and compliance training (CITI) – preferred. Five (5) years of experience in an academic endoscopy unit with assessment of more than 2000 EUS‑FNA samples. Experience with ROSE assessment of cholangioscopy‑guided biopsies. Basic knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis. Teaching experience in processing samples and assessing for ROSE in educational laboratory settings using teaching models. Experience with telepathology technologies. Experience with basic science Nikon software for tissue quantification in research – preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
