Job Overview A law firm seeks an experienced Attorney to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in Towson, Maryland. This role focuses on Maryland tax matters and requires deep technical SALT experience, strong client-facing skills, and the ability to manage complex matters independently. Responsibilities Take ownership of assigned matters from start to finish, developing strategies for successful outcomes. Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies and provide well-informed advice. Prepare, review, and finalize legal documents with precision and attention to detail. Maintain regular, proactive communication with clients about case progress and next steps. Represent clients effectively in negotiations and work toward favorable resolutions. Collaborate with senior attorneys and colleagues across practice areas. Uphold professional conduct, adhering to state bar requirements and firm policies. Assist in setting retainers, managing payment schedules, and ensuring timely collection of receivables. Stay current with legal developments and complete required Continuing Legal Education (CLE). Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. 5+ years of experience practicing Maryland state and local tax law. Substantial experience with sales and use tax. Strong knowledge of Maryland SALT issues; multistate experience, including PA, highly preferred. Admission to practice law in Maryland. Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Demonstrated ability to manage matters independently. Client-focused mindset with strong interpersonal and business judgment skills.
