Coordinate safe project execution and construction activities that support central projects at Kennecott. Work at our Kennecott operation near Salt Lake City, Utah, partnering with project, contractor, and operational teams. Join a global mining leader offering career development, competitive rewards, and opportunities to build technical expertise.

At Rio Tinto, we are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to succeed. We actively encourage applications from women and from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We know that great technical capability comes in many forms, and we are focused on building teams that reflect the communities we operate in and support each other to do their best work.

We're Finding Better Ways to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values - care, courage and curiosity - guide how we work and how we treat each other.

About the Role

We are looking for a Construction Coordinator to support Central Projects by coordinating construction activities and helping ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards. In this role, you will work closely with project managers, contractors, operational teams, and other stakeholders to support safe and effective project execution.

This is a great opportunity for a construction professional to contribute to meaningful site projects while building strong partnerships across project delivery, commissioning, operational readiness, and operations teams.

Reporting to the Central Projects leadership team and working in a collaborative project environment at Kennecott, you will:

  • Coordinate planning, scheduling, logistics, resources, and construction activities to support safe and efficient project execution
  • Partner with project managers, contractors, commissioning, operational readiness, and operations stakeholders to align requirements and support smooth handover
  • Review designs, scopes of work, and construction plans for constructability, risks, work methods, and project readiness
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with safety standards, environmental requirements, quality expectations, permits, codes, and company policies
  • Prepare, maintain, and update project documentation, including schedules, budgets, progress reports, quality records, redlines, permits, and lessons learned
  • Identify, escalate, and help resolve project risks, delays, non-conformances, and field issues to minimize disruption to timelines and business objectives
  • Support Critical Risk Management, field safety visibility, toolbox meetings, audits, inspections, incident management, and investigation activities
  • Track project performance, cost variations, schedule adherence, and resource needs while providing regular updates and recommendations to project leadership

About You

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • High school diploma or GED, with general construction experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience supporting civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, or multidisciplinary construction activities
  • Ability to coordinate with operational personnel, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional project teams
  • Knowledge of Critical Risk Management, construction safety practices, permits, quality assurance, pre-commissioning, or commissioning activities
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, schedule coordination, documentation, and Microsoft Office skills

Even if your profile does not fully meet all qualifications, we encourage you to apply; transferable skills and the right attitude are highly valued.

This role is open to candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

What We Offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • Competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with an annual incentive bonus
  • Access to top-tier family-friendly health programs including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life insurance coverage, and various voluntary benefits
  • Excellent retirement plan including up to 6% defined company contribution and a generous 401(k) matching program
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Comprehensive leave policies which cover all the moments that matter in life, including paid time off, paid holidays, and paid bereavement leave
