Company Description The Mid North Coast Local Health District delivers public healthcare services across approximately 11,335 square kilometres from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour. The District serves a flourishing and diverse community, including one of the state’s largest Aboriginal populations and residents from a wide range of cultural and migrant backgrounds. Around 218,000 people live in the region, with a significant proportion born overseas, contributing to a rich, multicultural environment. Over the next decade, the population is projected to grow by around 13 per cent, particularly in the Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie-Hastings areas, creating increasing demand for high-quality health services and leadership. Role Description The General Manager – Rural & Regional Hospitals is a full-time, on-site leadership role. This position oversees the strategic and operational management of rural and regional hospital services, ensuring safe, high-quality, and culturally responsive care. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets and resources, monitoring performance against clinical and operational targets, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves collaborating with clinicians, community representatives, and external partners to strengthen service integration, address population health needs, and support workforce development. The General Manager is also accountable for compliance with relevant policies and standards, effective risk management, and fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace culture. Qualifications Demonstrated leadership and management experience in hospital or health service settings, including responsibility for operations, budgets, and staff. Proven ability in strategic planning, service development, and change management within rural or regional healthcare environments. Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with clinical teams, community groups, and government or partner organizations. Experience overseeing quality and safety initiatives, performance monitoring, and compliance with healthcare standards and regulations. Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across diverse teams. Commitment to equity, cultural safety, and inclusive practices, including experience working with Aboriginal communities and multicultural populations. Relevant tertiary qualification in health management, business administration, public health, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.
