Overview This position performs nursing care for patients delegated by and performed under the direction of a Nursing Supervisor. Reports To Nurse Manager/Supervisor. Qualifications Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED required. License/Certification Required: Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required. Minimum Work Experience: Nurse assistant training and/or 3 months experience preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective communication skills; ability to meet the demands of an active position. Responsibilities Conduct a thorough health assessment of patients and record information accurately; report unusual data to nursing supervisor or provider in a timely manner. Assess and identify patient symptoms and problems; report unusual data to nursing supervisor or provider in a timely manner. Administer medications using various methods within scope of practice (e.g., orally, IM). Deliver patient care and education with understanding of identified or potential physiological and developmental problems, support and educational needs, and learning level of families; address any environmental problems. Obtain and handle specimens according to policy; adhere to infection control guidelines and appropriate use of PPE. Assist provider in performing appropriate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within scope of practice. Assist in developing and updating nursing plans for patients; establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Educate family or caregiver on health promotion and creating a safe environment; topics include healthy lifestyles, risk-reducing behaviors, developmental needs, and normal/age-specific care and safety. Evaluate and document patient responses to treatments and interventions. Deliver patient care while meeting quality management goals; maintain clinical competencies demonstrated through return demonstrations or computer-based learning modules. Document in compliance with departmental guidelines, promptly, thoroughly, and accurately. Interact with patients and families in a caring and professional manner to incorporate child and family-centered care. Put patients at ease and create a comfortable environment to reduce fear. Collaborate professionally with other providers of patient care; explain procedures and medications in understandable terms; maintain patient confidentiality and privacy. Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly clinical and patient care area; Willingly assume other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Record applicable patient charges promptly, thoroughly, and accurately to ensure appropriate billing. Use hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably; optimize time efficiently and serve as a role model/resource for others; avoid misuse, abuse, or waste per Lean Principles. Stock supplies and equipment proactively to support efficient patient care. Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Light lifting/pushing/pulling 10–20 lbs occasionally, frequent moving of objects under 10 lbs. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching.
