Valiant is seeking skilled CAT III Portuguese Linguists to provide interpretation and translation services in support of ongoing and new U.S. operations and mission requirements. Responsibilities Provide foreign language support services, including transcription and translation/interpretation (comprising idiomatic translations of non‑technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to Portuguese or vice versa) in support of military interrogations, intelligence collection, and other operational missions. Provide cultural and ethnic context for translations, interpretations, and transcriptions, offering expert linguist’s opinion as to the most likely meaning/intent of terms, phrases, or statements that may have multiple valid interpretations. Perform document exploitation, scanning, research, and analysis of foreign language documents and intercepted data for key information; supplement interpretations and translations with industry‑specific knowledge (medicine, science, engineering, legal, etc.) and identify and extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria and provide input to reports. Native proficiency preferred. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements U.S. Citizen. Minimum 2 years of interpretation/translation experience. ILR level 3 in both target language and English; native proficiency preferred. Document exploitation skills. In‑depth geo‑political knowledge. Computer literacy. Ability to understand all speech in a standard dialect and follow accurately conversations between educated native speakers, understand radio broadcasts, news stories, oral reports, public addresses on non‑technical subjects. Ability to produce idiomatic translations of non‑technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to target language and vice versa. Ability to interpret/translate using colloquial and slang words and phrases. Ability to conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription, and interpretation of ongoing conversations/activities and intelligence activities to/from target language. Ability to accurately provide cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations, and advise on cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents, etc. Ability to accurately perform document exploitation (scan, research, analyze foreign language documents for intelligence information and identify/extract information components meeting mandatory information requirement list criteria). Security Requirements Must have at minimum an ACTIVE TOP SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI. Must be able to pass a polygraph and a CI Focus Interview. Physical Requirements May include lifting, ascending and descending stairs, climbing, extended sitting or standing to various degrees.
