Description

GENERAL PURPOSE :

The Environmental Specialist Grants Manager is responsible for coordinating the organization's efforts to secure government grants and other funding opportunities, grant proposal development, and grant administration. Work is performed under general supervision - the incumbent normally receives little instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects and assignments; work is reviewed periodically and is evaluated through meetings, review of programs, and results achieved.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

NOTE : The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position or to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Serve as the organizational lead for all grant management, guiding the strategic identification, application, and administration of grant opportunities in alignment with mission and priorities.

Essential knowledge in federal, state, and private funding mechanisms with emphasis on Water Quality, Habitat Restoration, Water Supply, Resiliency and Recreational grants and terminology.

Conduct comprehensive research into grant opportunities and develop a tracking database for opportunities, deadlines, and criteria while working with leadership to determine best opportunities for the affiliate.

Draft of grant proposals, collaborating with leadership and relevant departments to ensure applications are compelling, data-driven, advocacy-centric and true to the strategic goals and fiscal needs of each program.

Oversee grant reporting and compliance procedures, financial tracking, and performance analysis. This includes progress and annual reporting, as well as measurement of progress to ward deliverables

Produce cash flow projections and other reports to integrate grant funding into the organization's annual budget and strategic plans, emphasizing the use of data for decision-making and planning.

Ensure interdepartmental compliance and effective reporting, with an emphasis on leveraging internal funds.

Undertake additional responsibilities as needed, with a focus on supporting organizational goals and improve grant and funding management processes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Demonstrates solid organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills with a strong attention to detail.

Familiarity with environmental science terminology and research methods.

Budgeting and financial reporting skills.

Technology competent with the ability to learn new methods, programs and tools.

Confident working as part of a team and / or independently toward mutual goals.

Computer skills required : Microsoft 365 programs.

Develops and maintains strategic relationships with stakeholders both internal and external, including staff, board, grant administrators, local government and elected officials.

High energy level with a strong sense of initiative, creative problem-solving, flexibility, discretion, and presentation skills as well as the ability to model and teach such behaviors to the team where needed.

Strong written skills and strong data analysis / Microsoft Excel skills. (a writing sample may be requested).

Strong communication skills in oral, written, proofreading, editing, and presentation.

Strong organizational skills : ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to handle multiple, often conflicting responsibilities, deadlines, and tasks simultaneously.

Able to address and prioritize complex issues to achieve high quality results. This includes the ability to gather, interpret and utilize relevant data to advise strategy development and make decisions.

Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.

This position is performed with working knowledge - the incumbent has ability to recall and apply important and commonly-used information from relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor's degree in environmental or engineering field supplemented by a minimum of three years' experience in grant writing and management.

Experience with government grants, federal, state and private funding mechanisms, with emphasis on Water Quality, Habitat Restoration, Water Supply, Resiliency and Recreational grants.

Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

Experience working in a collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on strategy and tactics.

Experience working under simultaneous and competitive deadlines.

Supplemental Information

OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Physical

This is light work requiring the exertion of 0 - 20 pounds of force occasionally and 0 - 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.

Ability to traverse about an ADA accessible office setting, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to remain stationary at a keyboard for extended periods of time and continuously operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.

Ability to manipulate objects and demonstrate small, precise movements repetitively.

Environmental

Tasks may require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc.

Sensory

Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
