Description
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, the Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for working closely with highly skilled mechanical, electrical, and project management professionals, to design electrical systems. Knowledgeable in applicable engineering methods, practices, standards, and is expected to be a department champion in ensuring engineering department methods and practices are up to date, this includes training, knowledge sharing, technical guidance and checking of work of other department members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop and prepare electrical designs, and drawings, from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data while conforming to sound engineering practices.
Create and maintain electrical schematics of electrical designs as well as other support drawings using EPLAN and AutoCAD electrical software during and after the build cycle. Consulting with other departments, project managers / engineers and fabrication groups before and after the build cycle and making changes to electrical drawings as necessary.
Ensure equipment design integrity meets all aspects of functional design requirements, including rate capacity, strength, reliability and service life expectations using standard engineering practices and tools such as, sizing software, component sizing calculations and prototype testing if / when necessary.
Apply expert knowledge of relevant North American codes, standards and practices to assess group company designs. This may include modification / rework of global designs.
Integrate concepts that contribute to the safety of the equipment and its design. Capturing and addressing individual / human safety elements as well as machine safety.
Create and maintain safety validation documentation.
Ensure system performance reliability, conformance to customer specifications and quality standards. This includes leading quality checks of completed designs and / or equipment as well as providing technical guidance to other engineering team members.
Develop engineering department technical guidelines, documentation and standards; lead Eplan drawing and template development; develop and refine department training materials.
Working with the Systems Planning team, create estimates for projects that detail material costs and design hours including maintenance and development of department estimating tools.
Maintain device and system engineering drawing packages as well as other support documentation including information on conformance to standards.
Maintain budget and schedule commitments during the design cycle.
Responsible for the research phase of purchasing for electrical parts. Justify product choice to the Project Manager and submit purchase orders to the purchasing department for all electrical components.
Attend project kick off meetings to gain knowledge on project specifications, expectations, timelines and provide hours and material costs estimates.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
EDUCATION And / or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum seven years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer in an industrial / engineering / automation environment. Experience with EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical required.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to convert and perform engineering calculations in all units of measure, using appropriate levels of accuracy and units of precision. Ability to compute and conduct equipment process related rate analyses, determine critical ratios, and percent values of interdependent relationships and to convey complex findings in simple to interpret graphs and / or other types of visualizations.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00 / yr.
