Burn Crew Member
The Burn Crew Member works as a part of a squad in wild land fire activities, as directed by a Burn Boss, or other command position. The Burn Crew Member participates in preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring and other tasks. May perform other forest management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire. This position is located within the Bankhead National Forest in Northwest Alabama. The BCM will be embedded with the Forest Service and part of their seasonal burn team.
This may include participation in wildland fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and local, state and federal agencies, tribal or indigenous, either as a TNC employee, or as a volunteer or short-term employee of the partner entity (such as an administratively determined, short term federal employee). They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
We are expecting this position to run from January 12, 2026, until April 17, 2026.
