General Description :

The Workforce Development unit at the Community College of Philadelphia seeks part-time Instructors with expertise in digital fabrication and prototyping to support training delivered in partnership with NextFab. Ideal candidates will bring strong, hands-on experience in areas such as 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking, metalworking, electronics, and CAD / CAM, along with a proven ability to deliver engaging, practical, and industry-aligned instruction. These noncredit courses and workshops prepare students and community members to transform concepts into physical prototypes and products using fabrication technologies. Classes may be offered during daytime and / or evening hours at the Community College of Philadelphia or at partner locations, including NextFab.

Specific Responsibilities :

  • Instruction : Teach noncredit classes and workshops in digital fabrication and prototyping, drawing on NextFab’s suite of tools and labs. Topics may include woodworking, metalworking, 3D design / printing, laser cutting, electronics and microcontrollers, sewing / embroidery, and related fabrication technologies.
  • Applied Learning : Guide participants in hands-on prototyping projects, helping them move from design concepts to functional prototypes.
  • Curriculum Delivery : Deliver assigned modules and projects following approved course outlines, ensuring alignment with industry practices and learner needs.
  • Documentation & Assessment : Document student attendance, monitor performance, and evaluate progress through hands-on projects and demonstrations of competency.
  • Technology Integration : Incorporate digital design tools (e.g., CAD / CAM, Figma, Fusion 360) and fabrication platforms to enhance applied learning.
  • Collaboration & Leadership : Work with CCP and NextFab teams to align training with workforce development goals and expand community access to fabrication skills.
  • Inclusive Practices : Create a welcoming environment that is sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of CCP’s learners, faculty, and staff.
  • Teaching Excellence : Model professional standards, maintain lab safety protocols, and inspire students to persist and succeed in hands-on technical learning.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one core fabrication discipline (e.g., woodworking, digital fabrication, 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, CAD / CAM).
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in prototyping, fabrication, product design, or related technical field.
  • Experience teaching, training, or mentoring adult learners in technical or workshop settings.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; ability to support diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain safe and inclusive learning environments.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience across multiple fabrication technologies (wood, metal, digital fabrication, textiles, electronics).
  • Familiarity with entrepreneurship, product development, or maker / startup culture.
  • Prior teaching or curriculum design experience in fabrication or applied design.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
