Overview

Professional Engineer 1 (Civil / Transportation) (NYHELPS) role at NYS Department of Transportation. This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Be the Consultant Job Manager and / or the Structures Design Squad Leader for an in-house bridge design squad for bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects.
• Manage in-house design squads and / or consultants for bridge rehabilitation and / or replacement projects.
• Develop / review project scope and design reports for bridge rehabilitation and / or replacement projects.
• Perform field inspections and prepare necessary reports in support of contract documents for structure rehabilitations.
• Review structural analyses (including high-complexity cases) related to design, estimating, and preparation of contract documents for replacement and rehabilitation projects using department software tools.
• Develop / review detailed structural drawings, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects.
• Oversee all technical and administrative aspects of bridge rehabilitation and / or replacement projects.
• Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6; coordinate with internal and external groups and agencies to obtain necessary permits.

Minimum Qualifications

This title is part of NY HELPS. To be considered, applicants must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.

Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer per Civil Service Law. Promotional pathway requires : New York State PE license and one year of permanent competitive service as Assistant Engineer (Civil / Transportation).
