Macdonald and Company is proud to partner with a privately held real estate investment and development firm focused on multifamily acquisitions across the U.S. Sunbelt. The firm partners with institutional and family office investors throughout the U.S. and Latin America and is at an inflection point of growth, transitioning leadership within its acquisitions platform. The firm seeks a strategic, execution-oriented Head of Multifamily Acquisitions to lead sourcing, underwriting, and execution efforts for new multifamily investments, with the flexibility to pursue other asset classes as market opportunities arise.
Role Summary :
The Head of Multifamily Acquisitions will oversee all aspects of the acquisitions process; from strategy and deal sourcing to closing and investor relations for multifamily assets across the Southeast, Texas, and other key U.S. growth markets. The ideal candidate combines institutional discipline with an entrepreneurial mindset and thrives in an environment where capital is raised deal-by-deal from a diverse LP base.
This is a player-coach role : the executive will lead strategy, relationships, and deal sourcing, while managing a high-performing acquisitions team supported by three analysts, a dedicated transaction management function, and an institutional-grade asset management and finance platform.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the multifamily acquisitions platform across target markets, including value-add, core-plus, and select development opportunities.
- Source, evaluate, and close multifamily transactions through an established network of brokers, owners, and institutional LPs.
- Identify and execute opportunistic acquisitions in other asset classes (retail, office, or mixed-use) as appropriate.
- Structure and negotiate joint venture partnerships, balancing LP and GP perspectives.
- Collaborate with the Managing Partners on capital formation strategy and investor engagement across institutional, family office, and HNW channels.
- Oversee underwriting, due diligence, and Investment Committee preparation, ensuring disciplined risk assessment and presentation quality.
- Manage and mentor a team of analysts and transaction managers; ensure modeling accuracy, market research depth, and efficient execution.
- Serve as the firm’s investment ambassador, articulating strategy and track record to LPs and co-GP partners.
- Partner with in-house finance and operations teams to ensure seamless post-acquisition integration and performance tracking.
Candidate Profile :
10–20 years of real estate investment experience, with a proven track record in multifamily acquisitions.Background in institutional real estate investing (REPE, REIT, or large family office) and experience with joint venture structures as both LP and GP.Demonstrated ability to source, underwrite, and close transactions exceeding $500MM+ cumulative volume.Strong relationships across multifamily brokerage, investment sales, and capital markets networks.Proven investor communication skills and credibility with Investment Committees, institutional LPs, and family offices.Experience managing and developing junior talent in a high-performance environment.MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred (Wharton, Columbia, or similar pedigree a plus).Personal Attributes :
