American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg unit caring for neurological and post-op patients, requiring a Michigan RN license and night shift availability.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a 40-bed medical surgical unit specializing in neurological disorders and post-op care
  • Patient population includes stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, other neuro-inflammatory conditions, and large spinal surgery cases
  • Unit includes six step-down / telemetry beds, six bariatric beds, and a four-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit for seizure patients age 5 and up
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 or 1 : 5
  • Night shift schedule with three 12-hour shifts (19 : 00-07 : 30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • May float to other Med / Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms
  • Uses Epic for EMR and Pyxis medication system
  • Role involves caring for a varied population of neuro, post-op, bariatric, and seizure-monitoring patients
  • Travelers are first to float if needed
  • No holiday time-off requests accepted; holiday RTO may be discussed with manager for unit needs
  • All lab work must be completed within 48-72 hours of signing contract
  • Online modules to be completed during orientation and annually
  • Past staff may return after 6 months
  • Locals within 50 miles accepted at a rate differential

    • Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN license required
  • BLS certification (AHA) required
  • NIHSS certification required or willingness to obtain prior to start
  • Minimum of 1 year Med / Surg nursing experience required; 1-2 years preferred
  • References required for consideration
  • Proof of flu vaccination or exemption required upon signing contract
