Position Summary

The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) invites applications for a full-time 12-month Clinical Instructor/Athletic Trainer in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science (http://uca.edu/exss/) is home to more than 500 students with diverse backgrounds. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Physical Education, and graduate degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, and Sport Management. The department values inclusive pedagogy and the UCA Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership (https://uca.edu/cetal/) is an available resource to assist faculty to thrive professionally and personally. Job Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach courses in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, serve on department, college, university committees, and provide medical coverage by assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with football and helping with off-season sports.

Academic Responsibilities (4×4 responsibility)
  • 1-2 sections of Anatomical Kinesiology or course with expertise (undergraduate level)
  • 2-3 sections of Athletic Training Clinical Courses (graduate level)

Clinical Education Responsibilities (Clinical courses)
  • Oversight of 20-25 clinical hours/week per student (1-4 students)
  • Twice weekly instructional sessions
  • Proficiency exam administration and validation
UCA MS-AT program prides itself on the level of supervision and assessments which reflects a high-touch, competency-based educational model.
Athletic Healthcare Responsibilities
~Primary Sport: Football (105-110 student athletes)
The fall season represents the most intensive period, with daily medical operations and comprehensive practice and game coverage.
~Core Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with all aspects of football sports medicine coverage
  • Provide daily injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management
  • Cover all practices, home and away games
  • Manage taping, hydration, emergency preparedness, and documentation
  • Coordinate communication with coaching staff, team physicians, and strength & conditioning
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and handle athletic training equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Skills Considered Essential for Success -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.
-Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures.
-Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
-Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team.
-Ability to make sound judgments.
-Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities.
-Civility in all interactions.
-Demonstrate effective follow-up. Required Education and/or Experience Must be certified by the BOC and have a completed master’s degree by the date of appointment in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or related field. Preferred Education and/or Experience Preferred qualifications are teaching experience in higher education and two years of experience as a practicing certified, licensed Athletic Trainer. License(s)/Certifications (Required or Preferred) BOC Certification is required
