Position Summary

An NPIS (National Poultry Inspection Service) Sorter involves inspecting poultry on a production line to identify and remove diseased or defective birds, ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Key duties include sorting based on criteria like defects and disease, marking birds for trimming or disposal, recording data, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to follow strict health and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect and sort : Visually inspect birds on a conveyor line to identify any defects or signs of disease.
• Separate and dispose : Determine whether to discard diseased or defective birds or to mark parts for trimming.
• Record data : Enter information into a computer regarding the number of birds discarded or salvaged.
• Maintain cleanliness : Keep the work area clean and orderly, free of debris.
• Follow procedures : Adhere to the guidelines of the Poultry Product Inspection Act and other company health and safety regulations.
• Perform labor duties : Assist with various other production and labor tasks as assigned by a supervisor.
