Assistant Professor, Disability, Aging, and Technology Cluster

The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor in the broad area of disability, aging, and technology to join the Disability, Aging and Technology (DAT) Cluster, which is one of several established interdisciplinary clusters that strengthen UCF's academic offerings and research to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research to help shape the future.

The Disability, Aging and Technology (DAT) cluster's mission is to help people with disabilities and older adults lead healthier and stronger lives by informing policy and innovating technologies to help them move better and smarter. The DAT cluster engages transdisciplinary research and education to link health and wellness interventions with technology applications so that effective and feasible health, behavioral, and assistive technologies can be used in various populations.

The DAT cluster is a partnership among multiple colleges and centers : the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS), College of Nursing (CON), College of Medicine (COM), College of Sciences (COS), the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the College of Medicine, and the Nanoscience Technology Center at UCF. Faculty members are key contributors to over 12 departments and programs, including the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department, School of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences (KRS), Nursing Systems, Physical Therapy (PT) Program, and Psychology Department.

We seek candidates with expertise in research areas related to neurostimulation, wearables, rehabilitation robotics, neuroengineering, and / or neurorehabilitation; however, candidates in any research area that could enhance the DAT cluster's transdisciplinary research and education advancements are encouraged to apply as well.

The candidate will be expected to conduct interdisciplinary research that strengthens both the DAT cluster and the candidate's chosen tenure home unit (potential units include College of Engineering : Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering that includes the Biomedical Engineering Program; College of Health Professions and Sciences : Kinesiology, Physical Therapy; College of Nursing : Nursing Systems; and College of Sciences : Psychology) and may include a combination of joint appointments. A strong advantage of this position is the ability of the candidate to choose a combination of units for their appointment. Both individual and interdisciplinary infrastructure and startup support will be provided with this new position.

The anticipated start date is August 8, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications :

A Ph.D. from an accredited institution at the time of appointment in an area appropriate to the DAT cluster (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, etc.).

The selected candidate must also have a record of research experience in aging, disability, and / or technology (as it pertains to the cluster's focus).

Preferred Qualifications :

A history of working with teams, especially teams that span multiple disciplines, is strongly preferred.

Published research in neurostimulation, wearables, rehabilitation robotics, neuroengineering, and / or neurorehabilitation related to disability, aging, and technology.

Experience with externally funded research projects and securing external funding.
