JOB OVERVIEW

  • Job Title : Psychiatrist
  • Job Type : Locum Tenens
  • Location : San Jose, CA
  • Service Setting : Outpatient Clinic
  • Coverage Type : Clinical Only
  • Coverage Period : 01 / 01 / 2026 – Ongoing
  • Clinical Shift Schedule : Flexible; 12–16 hours / week within Mon–Fri 8 : 30a–5p

COVERAGE DATES

  • Start Date : January 1, 2026 (tentative)
  • Credentialing Timeline : 30–60 days

    • PATIENT INFORMATION

  • Patient Demographics : Adults and Children with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders
  • Patient Volume / Census : 6–10 clients per day (depending on mix of new evaluations and follow-ups)
  • Admissions : No
  • Phone Consults : Yes, via telehealth as needed
  • Case Mix : Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Disruptive Mood Disorder, OCD, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder

  • EMR System : Avatar NX
  • Office Equipment Available : Standard outpatient clinic setup
  • Specialty Backup Available : Multidisciplinary team including Medical Director, Nurses, Clinicians, and Case Managers
  • Support Staff Available : RNs, Clinicians, Case Managers
  • Reason for Coverage : Growth and expansion
  • Nearest Airport : SJC (San Jose, CA)

    • PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE

  • Hospital Privileges Required : No
  • Temporary Privileges Available : No
  • Credentialing Timeline : 30–60 days
  • Compliance : COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical / religious exemptions accepted)

    • COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance : Not covered (drive-in candidates preferred)

    • REQUIRED PROCEDURES

  • Psychiatric evaluations and medication management
  • Completion of JV220 forms as needed (limited volume)
  • Documentation in Avatar NX EHR system

    • JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Licenses : Active California State License
  • Board : Board Certified or Board Eligible (Certification within 5 years of residency) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult and / or Child Psychiatry
  • DEA : Active DEA Certification required
  • Certifications : None specified beyond licensure and DEA
  • Experience : Experience in developmental disability and mental health preferred
  • Other Qualifications : Eligible for MediCal / Medicare certification; ability to prescribe controlled substances

    • DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform psychiatric assessments and mental status examinations for referred patients
  • Provide diagnosis and treatment following DSM standards and APA guidelines
  • Conduct medication management and review diagnostic data pertinent to patient care
  • Utilize Hope’s EHR system and follow Santa Clara County Psychiatric Medical Guidelines
  • Collaborate with Medical Director, Nurses, and Case Managers for coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Prepare detailed reports, treatment plans, and legal documents as required
  • Provide outpatient psychiatric services via telehealth and in-office sessions (minimum 1 day / week in-person)
  • Offer consultation and peer guidance to clinical staff as needed
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
  • Provide education and counseling to families and caregivers regarding mental health and intellectual disabilities
