St. Louis Voices Academy emphasizes media and storytelling, whole-child development, real-world inquiry, and progressive learner autonomy as foundational design elements supporting its mission.

Mission:

Role Overview

As a Special Education Teacher and Case Manager at St. Louis Voices Academy, you will play a critical role in supporting diverse learners through inclusive practices, targeted interventions, and individualized instruction. You will collaborate with general education teachers, families, and service providers to ensure that students with exceptional needs thrive socially, emotionally, and academically in alignment with their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

The ideal candidate is a reflective and mission-aligned educator who is committed to equity, restorative practices, and personalized learning. You will be responsible for both direct instruction and case management, ensuring compliance and high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction tailored to student learning goals.
  • Support students in inclusive classroom settings through co-teaching and collaboration with general education teachers.
  • Implement research-based instructional strategies and accommodations to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Design engaging lessons that promote student confidence, independence, and self-advocacy.

Case Management & Compliance

  • Serve as case manager for a designated group of students receiving special education services.
  • Develop, review, and revise IEPs in collaboration with families and school-based teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all IDEA requirements, timelines, and documentation.
  • Collect academic and behavioral data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and inform service adjustments.
  • Coordinate services from external providers and ensure appropriate scheduling, communication, and documentation.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with general education staff to analyze student data and support tiered intervention.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with families regarding student progress and services.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and communicate student needs and accommodations across the school team.
  • Support the MTSS/RTI process and collaborate on student support plans as needed.

School Culture & Community Building

  • Build strong relationships with students and foster a classroom culture of belonging, high expectations, and growth.
  • Engage students in social-emotional learning and self-regulation strategies.
  • Actively participate in school routines and culture-building activities, including:
    • Morning arrival & dismissal
    • Lunch & recess duty
    • Assemblies, student celebrations, and community events

Reflection & Continuous Improvement

  • Regularly reflect on instructional practice and student data to inform next steps.
  • Seek and apply feedback from coaches, leaders, and colleagues to improve outcomes.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning focused on inclusive practices, restorative justice, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Missouri certification in Special Education or Substitute Certificate
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in urban or high-needs schools (23 years preferred)
  • Knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, and compliance best practices

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep belief in the potential of all students, including those with learning differences
  • Ability to adapt instruction and provide targeted interventions based on data
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing timelines and documentation
  • Commitment to educational equity and inclusive learning environments
  • Alignment with the mission of leveraging media and storytelling to empower students
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to our core values: voice, ownership, innovation, collaboration, empathy, and scholarship

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive professional development
  • Access to instructional technology and resources
  • Mission-aligned team with a shared commitment to equity and creativity in education
