Position Summary
Arch Insurance is seeking an accomplished VP Marine Claims professional to serve as an individual contributor with expertise in marine claims handling and management. Possessing an in-depth understanding of coverage analysis and interpretation with a proven ability to collaborate closely with underwriting and other critical claims stakeholders. This individual must demonstrate exceptional executive presence and will serve as both a technical SME and a strategic partner within the organization. This role offers the opportunity for future people leadership responsibilities as the business grows.
Responsibilities
- Act as the principal claims handler and technical expert for complex Marine claims.
- Work collaboratively and proactively with Underwriting to analyze claim trends, identify coverage and risk issues, and recommend effective mitigation strategies. Foster a culture of partnership between Claims and Underwriting to drive business results.
- Provide best-in-class technical guidance and strategic recommendations on intricate coverage matters and high-exposure claims, ensuring nuanced and accurate decision-making.
- Participate in the Trial Committee process, offering expert evaluation of significant cases, helping shape resolution strategies, and ensuring consistent, insightful reporting to Home Office leadership.
- Represent Arch Insurance with a commanding executive presence at mediations, trials, and key stakeholder meetings, leveraging superior presentation skills to influence outcomes and uphold the company's reputation.
- Conduct frequent, thorough reserve reviews and contribute to precision in loss estimation and reserving practices.
- Lead critical control activities such as large loss snapshot reviews and reserve assessments, ensuring meticulous attention to coverage nuances.
- Design and facilitate training sessions and partnership calls, promoting alignment and knowledge sharing among Claims, Underwriting, Actuarial, and Risk Engineering teams.
- Identify and champion initiatives related to loss cost reduction and enhanced financial performance.
- Support and drive claim-related projects and strategic initiatives as delegated.
- As the business grows, take on leadership roles by managing a team of Marine Claims professionals, instilling a high standard of technical and collaborative excellence.
Experience & Required Skills
Minimum of 15 years' experience, with deep, demonstrable expertise in Marine claims handling, advanced coverage analysis, and complex case resolution.Licensure in multiple jurisdictions requiredExpert knowledge of all state and National and International Laws governing Marine Claims, i.e. Jones ActHands-on experience in both frontline and supervisory Marine claims, with a strong track record of multi-line exposure and account management.Exceptional technical proficiency in coverage analysis for Marine claims, with an ability to draft precise coverage disclaimers and Reservation of Rights letters.Demonstrated excellence in conducting thorough Marine Claims Audits.Superior skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for building productive, cross-functional relationships and influencing at all organizational levels.Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and time management capabilities.Self-motivated, highly collaborative, and adept at working both independently and as a key team contributor.Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%.Education

The base salary range is $166,900 - $230,000 / year. Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
