Site Reliability Engineer (Special Programs) Hawthorne, CA
SpaceX is building technologies to enable human life on Mars. Special Programs leverages technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. Starshield focuses on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads for government use. Our missions push the boundaries of in-space capabilities and include scientific research, classified national security space, and commercial opportunities. Software engineering and innovation are at the core of these programs.
The data analysis team is building highly reliable on-premises and cloud compute clusters to host machine learning inference-heavy models. Aerospace experience is not required; we welcome engineers from all backgrounds who love solving problems and want to make an impact on an inspiring mission. We seek versatile, motivated, and collaborative engineers as we grow the team.
Our team designs scalable systems to support a growing volume of data products. We build tools to improve efficiency and to create software that is secure, reliable, and autonomous. Our engineers are responsible for the life cycle of their systems, including development, testing, deployment, operations, and refinement.

Site Reliability Engineer / Level I : $120,000 - $145,000 per year
Site Reliability Engineer / Level II : $140,000 - $170,000 per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience. Those with an active clearance receive a 10% differential, up to an additional $15,000 annually, once briefed into a classified program.
Base salary is part of SpaceX's total rewards package, which may include long-term incentives (stock, stock options, or cash awards), discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase additional stock through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also have access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, and various discounts and perks. You may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and 10+ paid holidays per year. Paid sick leave accrues per company policy.
