JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to provide professional research assistance to a faculty member. This position focuses on two research areas:

• Generative AI Security – studying adversarial robustness, trustworthy AI, and vulnerabilities in large-scale machine learning systems.
• Information Freshness in Wireless Networks – analyzing and optimizing timeliness of information delivery, latency, and age-of-information metrics in networked systems.

This role is ideal for graduate students who want to develop advanced research skills while contributing to cutting-edge projects in computing, AI, and wireless communication.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Graduate Assistants may:

• Conduct literature reviews and summarize research findings.
• Assist with experiments, simulations, coding, and data analysis.
• Develop and test research software or tools (., for AI or wireless simulation).
• Prepare reports, manuscripts, or conference papers.
• Visualize results and contribute to research presentations.
• Participate in regular research meetings with the supervising faculty member.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a current CSUSB graduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum GPA: 3.0
• Strong programming ability (., Python, C++, or Java).
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in hand by time of appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Coursework or project experience in machine learning, AI, cybersecurity, or wireless networks.
• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (., PyTorch, TensorFlow), generative AI models (., large language models, diffusion models), or network simulation tools (., ns-3).
• Prior research experience in academia or industry.
• Proficiency with LaTeX and technical writing.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
