Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the dispensing medications and providing drug information following established standards and practices to ensure proper and safe medication use.
Job Functions
- Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals.
- Prepares IV solutions.
- Prepares and maintains all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges and inventory.
- Provides information to facility staff on drugs and pharmaceuticals.
- Writes guidelines for drug use within the hospital and implements hospital regulations.
- Ensures medicines are stores appropriately and securely.
- Provides guidance to pharmacy staff.
- Answers questions about medicines from within the hospital, other hospitals and the general public.
- This position may occasionally be required to float to other locations. Waconia, Chaska, Arlington, Le Sueur.
- This position requires occasional coverage of emergency department pharmacist shifts on weekdays and weekends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
When functioning as Night Pharmacist :
Delivers medications to nursing stations.Performs the Intelliguard tray refill for the OR's.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Education / Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in PharmacyPharmacist experience in hospital settingKnowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functionsCapable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skillsAbility to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populationsAbility to work carefully, methodically and accuratelyKnowledge of IV admixture, unit doses, computer operation, oncology, nutritional support and kinetic dosingAbility to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned aboveLicense / Certification
