The Department of Family and Community Services

Office of Childrens Services (OCS) is

recruiting for a full-time Protective Service Specialist 4 located in

Wasilla Alaska.

What you will be doing

The individual in this position is responsible for Child Protection Services in the Family Services unit. They are the bridge between management and Front-Line Protective Services staff while also acting as a resource within the office and community and serving as a community liaison with other agencies. They supervise several case workers assigning reviewing and consulting on cases. They have a variety of administrative functions as well as providing personnel management for their staff.

This position may require travel once or twice a month for up to two to three days at a time depending on casework need.

Your first twelve months in the agency are probationary and considered a training period with formal virtual training on-the-job training with your supervisor and with other colleagues

Working environment you can expect

This position is in the Wasilla Field Office. This position is responsible for the supervision and support of up to Six (6) Protective Services successful applicant will be someone with a strong work ethic and high ethical standard who believes in treating all people with dignity and respect who is self-motivated organized honest and who is able to get the job done while still contributing to a positive upbeat work environment.

The Office of Childrens Services requires staff to work after hours and on-call. Overtime is also an expectation when deemed necessary. OCS Staff are considered essential so are expected to work during pandemic and other natural disasters. The agency also supports a healthy work / life balance for all staff.

Special Note

  • All positions require a valid Alaska drivers license and successful completion of a background investigation including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.
  • Additionally while the Division does have vehicles assigned to it they may not always be available for staff use. Mileage reimbursement is available when a personal vehicle is used for work-related matters. Current automotive insurance must be in place prior to use of a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the State.
  • For positions in this job class a child protective history check will be performed per AS 12.62.160 and / or 13 AAC 68.315 including a background and fingerprint check.
  • The successful candidate may be required to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.
  • Travel may be required generally one to two trips per month for up to two to three days at a time depending on casework need. Due to travel possibilities you are required to have a valid Real ID.
