Inspects paving, drainage, water, sewer, traffic signals, and other improvements at construction sites to ensure that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and City codes.
Essential functions include :
- Inspecting paving, drainage, water, sewer, traffic signals, and other improvements at construction sites to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and City codes.
- Maintaining daily logs of all activities at construction sites; monitoring and recording quality and quantity of materials used on City contracts; monitoring all testing of water lines, sewer lines, concrete, asphalt, and compaction on job sites; filing daily logs, test results, and compaction reports on all jobs; reporting any changes in design, materials, or methods to appropriate engineering personnel.
- Communicating with contractors, property owners, and engineers concerning construction; answering questions as necessary.
- Enforcing proper traffic control at job sites as necessary.
- Being on call 24 hours for emergencies and responding as necessary for area of assigned responsibility.
- Performing all other related duties as assigned.
Position qualifications :
Education : High School Diploma or GED.
Experience : 1 year of experience in the inspection of water, sewer, traffic signals, drainage, and paving construction.
Required Skills & Abilities : Knowledge of basic principles of surveying, construction safety, City codes and specifications. Ability to accept responsibility and account for his / her actions. Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks. Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type. Ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, City personnel, utility companies, and the general public. Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Skills : Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, e-mail and the internet. Skills in reading and interpreting construction plans and understanding construction methods and equipment.
Preferences : Preference may be given to an applicant with certification as a Certified Public Works Inspector.
Work hours : Monday-Thursday, 6 : 30am-5 : 00pm.
