The Department of Psychology, College of Social Sciences (CSS), University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UHM) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor (F-3) position in Neuroscience. The hire will join the Cognitive, Neuroscience, and Social area, and desired applicants will add to the department’s strengths in neuroscience and cognition. This is a 9-month, full-time, permanent, tenure-track faculty appointment to begin August 1, 2026, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a research program; undertake research/scholarly projects in the field or branch of learning represented by and consistent with the goals of the UHM CSS.
  • Seek extramural funding.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in neuroscience, biopsychology, and seminars in specialty area, and courses serving departmental needs (e.g., Statistical Techniques in Psychology), as needed.
  • Maintain a professional level of performance and productivity in assigned areas of teaching, research, and service.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate, MA and PhD students.
  • Contribute to development activities at the discipline, department, and campus levels.
  • Work independently and with colleagues to select, develop, and revise curricular materials, instructional techniques, and assessment strategies at the course, credential and/or discipline levels.
  • Provide service to department, college, university, and community.
  • Participate in professional and self-development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, or closely related area from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent by date of hire;
  • Record of research accomplishment (publications, grants) commensurate with time in the field;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in neuroscience, biopsychology, and seminars in specialty area;
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor students in the applicant’s area of research;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral or comparable research experience.
  • Research interests that contribute to the program area in cognition, neuroscience, and social psychology.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive extramural funding.
  • Experience teaching student populations with varying backgrounds.
