Role Overview

We are hiring in two Massachusetts locations : Groveland and Newburyport. In this hands-on role, you will machine precision parts to exact customer specifications while performing in-process inspections. When serving in a lead capacity, you will coordinate the turning or milling area, schedule work, troubleshoot, program, and collaborate on first piece inspections.

A Day in the Shop

Start of shift : Review job travelers, prints, and CNC programs. If operating as lead, you will set priorities for the turning or milling area, plan the schedule, and align first piece inspections with the turning or milling lead. You will program, implement upgrades, and verify outcomes from any program changes.

On the machines : Set up and run lathe, mill, and mill-turn equipment to print using CNC programs. Perform in-process checks to the print callouts. Deburr parts per requirements and keep work areas clean and organized.

Quality and control : Maintain part identification and lot segregation. Detect, segregate, and report non-conforming material and foreign object debris (FOD). Control non-conforming material with proper documentation and accurately report any damaged / nonconforming parts to team leaders / Manager. Ensure compliance with AS9100D and customer-specific requirements, and report any safety issues encountered during normal job activities.

Close-out : Accurately complete all documentation and job travelers. Assist with packaging and shipping of parts as needed.

Competencies

  • Print reading
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus
  • Multitasking (e.g., inspect / measure parts while other parts are running; operate more than one machine at a time)
  • Dexterity and attention to detail
  • Endurance for standing over long periods
  • Cleanliness, organization, and a strong safety focus
  • Ability to read / understand gages and other measurement devices (calipers, micrometers)
  • Team player mindset aligned to an AS9100 environment

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerance understanding
  • Brown and Sharpe Micro-Val CMM experience is a plus
  • Experience with CMM Manager software is a plus
  • Proficient with inspection tools : dial indicators, gage blocks, micrometers
  • Good communication and math skills
  • Familiarity with an AS9100 shop environment
  • Training

  • Familiarity with Jet Machined Products inspection forms and record keeping practices
  • AS9100 awareness
  • Education

    Vocational or non-vocational High School Graduate or GED

    Reporting Structure

    Reports to the turning / milling lead; if serving as lead, reports to the General Manager.

    Physical and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift and move machined parts
  • Clean and relatively quiet in most areas; hearing protection required in some areas
  • Eye hazard potential; eye protection required for certain operations
  • Schedule

    Occasional overtime, workload dependent.
