Overview We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead EMC Engineer in our Olathe, KS or Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for being a key technical contributor and / or project manager for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Certification and / or testing related to complicated projects and will serve as a mentor and provides guidance to less experienced EMC engineers. The Operations Team is responsible for partnering with cross functional engineering teams to achieve EMC and radio transmitter certifications. Essential Functions Reviews new project proposals and provides guidance to resolve any issues Demonstrates good knowledge of all Garmin products and their respective certification and testing requirements across multiple platforms Creates and executes test programs to suit multiple certification programs Regularly demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems Lead regulatory compliance test planning and ensure adherence to standards for new market projects or those involving modular certifications, new standards, or directives Manage compliance testing for advanced, complex products, including multi-unit systems and multi-market projects requiring coordination with multiple engineering departments and regulatory bodies Conduct regulatory research and development for complex projects with limited precedent Contribute significantly to compliance reviews across various product lines. Lead EMC planning for systems with multiple transmitter modules and provide expert-level peer assessments in areas of expertise Represents Garmin among industry partners, peer groups and regulatory agencies (FAA / EASA / RTCA / GAMA / OEM / Audits / FCC / IEEE) Research global EMC certification standards, conduct feasibility studies, and advise leadership with business-driven recommendations Align compliance strategies with Garmin's business functions, including operations, production, sales and marketing Initiate new procedures when warranted Initiate process improvements and define effective compliance methodologies using state-of-the-art tools and practices Influence corporate decisions related to long-term compliance goals and regulatory initiatives Provide regulatory input during product development related to EMC and safety design for circuits and PCB layouts Support the advancement of compliance standards and next-generation test methods within the regulatory community Apply advanced regulatory expertise to ensure products meet legal requirements in all target markets Assist engineering management with policy updates and monitor upcoming regulations to minimize business impact Lead advanced regulatory research into emerging technologies and markets with minimal supervision Organize program goals and develop internal standards for compliance test activities Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1 & 2, Senior EMC Engineer) Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel Demonstrated project management and / or project engineering experience Must be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality Excellent time management skills and ability to generate and support pragmatic solutions that meet Garmin’s market launch requirements, while maintaining high quality standards Thorough understanding of FCC and European certification requirements, including FCC Part 15B, 15C, CISPR32, and CISPR35 Demonstrated experience certifying a broad range of transmitter technologies Proven ability to implement regulatory solutions effectively Solid knowledge of compliance regulations concerning power sources, thermal hazards, flammability, insulation systems, and related domains Desired Qualifications iNARTE certification in EMC and / or Product Safety Experience participating in standards-writing committees Familiarity with EMC and safety considerations in circuit and PCB layout design Knowledge of quality standards such as ISO9001, ISO17025, AS9100, IATF6949 Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
