Overview

The Director of Accounting and Financial Operations serves as a key leadership figure at the Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund (KCCF), the world’s largest facilitator of Catholic philanthropy, having distributed over $200 million in charitable grants over the past five years. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution, ensuring the financial integrity and operational excellence of KCCF’s donor-advised fund (DAF) program and other related entities. The position requires both strategic policy development and day-to-day accounting and operational management.

The role involves managing core accounting functions, overseeing financial reporting, processing financial transactions, and driving process improvements across the organization. Success in this position requires a strong foundation in nonprofit accounting and financial or treasury operations, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a practical, mission-driven mindset.

Core Responsibilities

• Accounting : Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities.
• Oversee general ledger activity, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
• Manage the annual audit process and the preparation of Form 990s, coordinating with external auditors and tax professionals.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures, with a focus on donor-advised funds and other charitable strategies.
• Provide financial reporting and analysis for the Board of Directors and various committees.
• Donor Advised Fund Administration and Operations : Oversee day-to-day financial transactions, including processing payments, reconciling accounts and managing cash flows.
• Manage individual DAF accounting, including tracking contributions, investment income, grant disbursements, accounts payable transactions, and processing account-level fees.
• Work with the client success team to ensure timely and accurate grant distributions and fund reporting.
• Assist in implementing technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency and data integrity.
• Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, GAAP and industry best practices related to donor-advised funds and other charitable strategies.

Required :

Authorization to Work in the United States is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Compensation

The wage range for this role applies when work is performed in Connecticut. Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the range if the position is performed elsewhere. Estimated range : $104,500 - $172,400 .
