Overview

The Coding Manager of will direct the daily activities of the professional and outpatient coding specialists, including, but not limited to scheduling, selecting staff, collaborating with outsource contract coding vendors, assigning work, and addressing client support needs. Additionally, the Manager will implement procedures to reasonably ensure compliance with Federal, State and Third-Party Payer coding rules and regulations, including conducting coding reviews of staff's work.

The Manager will collaborate with peers in Health Information Services, EPS and Compliance, contracted vendors, as well Faculty Practice Administrators, Physicians, and other leadership positions. The Manager may also be an integral part of various Maimonides Health committees and workgroups and fill in for the Director in their absence.

Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of department management, including recruitment, training, scheduling, work assignments, performance monitoring, and staff development.

Ensure accurate and timely coding and billing by managing workload distribution and performing quality assurance reviews.

Collaborate with the Director on department policies, procedures, budgeting, and variance reporting.

Provide routine management reports to the Director and relevant stakeholders on department performance.

Manage daily reconciliation of encounters and coding transfers to EPS and / or AHS.

Review coding-related billing denials, identify areas for process improvement or education, and facilitate corrective actions or appeals as needed.

Partner with clients to support accurate and timely code submissions.

Monitor and assess staff performance, conduct coaching, counseling, and evaluations, maintaining proper documentation.

Demonstrate proficiency in coding, coding compliance, and relevant systems.

Serve as a role model for professionalism, teamwork, and work ethic.

Facilitate patient registration and documentation for OB / Labor & Delivery and other contracted healthcare partners.

Coordinate scheduling of surgical procedures, secure insurance authorizations, and ensure accurate billing.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent education and experience required.

Master's degree in healthcare or management preferred.

Active CPC, CCS, or CCS-P certification required; CRC preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in coding and coding management.

At least 2 years of professional coding and / or coding compliance experience.

Team leader or supervisory experience required.

Recent experience with Medicare and Medicaid billing and coding regulations.

Demonstrated proficiency in ICD-10-CM, verified through testing and / or certification.

Thorough knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid documentation requirements, CMS coding guidelines, Teaching Physician documentation, and NCCI / OCE edits.

Strong ICD-10-CM and CPT coding skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Proficiency in English; knowledge of a second language preferred.

Pay Range

USD $73,000.00 - USD $91,557.00 / Yr.
