Road Surface / Roadside Maintenance :Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance
Perform all roadway surface maintenance activitiesService and make minor repairs to operating equipmentProvide traffic controlPerform basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activitiesPerform other duties as assignedSnow and Ice :Maintain roadways for snow and ice control
Prepare and inspect winter equipmentPerform preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanupPerform winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicalsMaintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource managementPerform traffic control set-ups and notify dispatch of disabled vehiclesMinimum Qualifications
Valid Class B Driver's License with no air brake restrictionMust obtain a Tanker Endorsement prior to hireMust obtain a Class A License within 6 months of hireMust obtain a Non-Commercial pesticide sprayer license within 6 months of hireExperience : One (1) year working in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience)Education : Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) substitutes for one year of experienceWorking knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written informationExam Information
Exam Part 1 : Experience or education requirements listed aboveExam Part 2 : Math and Reading assessment with required passing scores (Math Level 3+, Reading Level 4+). Candidates may be exempt if previously passedPreferred Qualifications
Previous MnDOT experience as a Laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation GeneralistDiscipline on file (when assessed)Physical Requirements
Must be able to work nights and be exposed to weather elements, drive a motor vehicle on off-road conditions, walk on uneven ground, perform various body positions, operate machinery, lift / carry 50-70 pounds, and use personal protective equipment
