Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Monitor Tech provides continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns on telemetry and reposts significant information to appropriate nursing personnel. Functions within a designated hospital area to assist nursing personnel in the close observation in the monitoring of patients.

Responsibilites :

1. Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval

2. Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are readily available. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, Verifies daily telemetry charges     3. Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff     4. Assists in answering telephone, Ensures pull down desks are in upright position after posting EKG strips on patient chart, keeps work area neat and clean, no food or drink in work station, Ensures transmitters are properly cleaned between patients, electrical cords off floor     5. Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory in-services and Code Validation within given time frame, attends unit-based in-services, attends monthly departmental meetings. Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unit / service needs, i.e., floating to other areas

Job Requirements

Education :

High School Diploma / GED

Experience :

One (1) year of experience as a monitor tech, EMT or paramedic
