About the Role This position focuses on comprehensive assessment, intervention, and ongoing monitoring of pediatric students' mental and behavioral health needs. The RN collaborates closely with educators, families, and healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans that support both emotional wellbeing and academic success. Through advocacy, education, and direct care, this role helps create a safe, supportive environment where students can build resilience and thrive.
Part-Time Requirement: Part-time positions require working
two 12-hour shifts per week.
Key Responsibilities - Conduct comprehensive mental and behavioral health assessments of pediatric students
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Provide direct nursing care and crisis intervention for students experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges
- Educate students, families, and school staff on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and ongoing professional development
- Advocate for student mental health needs within the educational system
- Coordinate referrals to external healthcare providers as needed
Minimum Qualifications - Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree
- Experience or training in pediatric mental and behavioral health nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong understanding of child development and common pediatric mental health disorders
Preferred Qualifications - Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN) or Pediatric Nursing (CPN)
- Experience in school-based or educational health programs
- Training in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and 504 plans
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
