Reporting directly to the VP of Real Estate, the Staff Mechanical Engineer (SME) is the department and organization resource and subject matter expert for projects, systems, and components within the technical discipline. The SME will provide assessments, recommendations, and direction as a partner to the established FacilitiesandConstructionteamstoensurereliableandefficientoperationoftheorganizationsinHospitals.This position will play a key role in the planning / execution of our de novo growth and renovation projects and is focusedon the execution and oversightof professional activitieswithin themechanical discipline. Theindividual willfunctionwithsignificant autonomy guidedby establishedobjectives,provideroutine updates,andreport on metrics and end results.
Responsibilitiesinclude,but arenotlimitedto
- Lead andexecuteresponsibilitiesrelatedtothedesign,specification,review,anddevelopmentof mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, for new and existing MedVet hospitals.
- Focus areas include building mechanical infrastructure primarily focused on HVAC, building managementsystemsandcontrols,andplumbing,includingrefrigeration,compressedair,fire protection systems, natural gas, LPG, plumbing, wastewater, and other thermal-fluid systems supporting medical processes.
- Responsibilitiesincludesystemevaluations,troubleshooting,controlsofmodifications,engineering studies, calculations, design specifications, project estimates, detailed design, procurement, installation, acceptance testing, and performance audits.
- Applyprojectmanagementmethodologiestosettargets,trackprogress,andreportstatus.
- CollaboratewithinternalFacilities,ProjectManagement,andOperationsteamsandexternal vendors, contractors, consultants, and engineering firms.
- Defineprojectscopeandevaluateavailableoptionsbeforeselectingtheoptimalsolution.
- Evaluaterepairandreplacementproposalstoensureproperapproach,scope,andcost.
- Developprojectrequirements,plans,andschedules
- Conductmechanicalengineeringstudiesandcalculationstosupportdetaileddesigns.
- Gatherdesigndatafromexistingsystemstoverifyperformanceandcompatibility.
- Createconceptualandfinaldesignstoaddressdeficienciesormeetprojectneedsfromvarious departments.
- OverseethedevelopmentofdetailedengineeringdrawingsandspecificationsthatsupportHospital operating needs.
- Preparecostestimates,secure,andreviewquotations.
- Draftwhitepapersandbusinesscases;assistotherteamswithdocument preparation.
- Interpretdomesticandinternationalcodesandstandardswithlocalengineeringsupport.
- Reviewworkordersandrequisitionstoinitiate implementation.
- Monitorprojectprogresstomaintainschedules,resolveissues,controlcosts,andreportstatus.
- Ensuresuccessfulperformancetesting,documentation,andprojectacceptance.
- Inspectconditionsinthefieldandconstructionsites.
Knowledge,Skills,and Abilities
Theidealcandidatehasaminimumofabachelor'sdegreeinmechanicalengineeringorotherrelatedfieldand5 years of engineering experience with project management and operations exposure. In addition, this position requires :

WhiletheMedVetheadquartersisinColumbusOhioandthereisaconcentrationofHospitalsinthisregion,this position can be in a major city with strong preference to the central United States and airline hub cities (. Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte).MedVet offers competitive compensation and full benefits package, including paid time off, health insurance, dental, vision, uniform allowance and 401K.The posted range for this position is $77,000-$105,000which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role.
