Deputy Director And Strategic Advisor

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Director and Strategic Advisor of the Policy and Resources Directorate at the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General (HAF / SG), sharing with the director the full scope of responsibility for managing the activities of the directorate.

Responsibilities include :

  • Serving as the "alter ego" for the Director of the Policy & Resources Directorate.
  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing the activities of the Directorate.
  • Exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Directing, coordinating, and overseeing work through subordinate supervisors.
  • Representing the SGMED Directorate, building and managing relationships with high-level offices across a worldwide functional area.
  • Serving as the principal strategic level advisor providing authoritative expert technical advice and support to the AF / SG and senior leaders within the AFMS.
  • HQ AF / SG representative in various forums with service components, DHA, OSD, other inter-agencies and industry partners to advance AFMS priorities and equities.

Requirements include :

  • Meeting the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
  • At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-14 or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Knowledge of the mission roles, functions, organizational structures, and operations of the Military Health System, Department of Defense, and Service Components and civilian agencies.
  • Knowledge of administrative management functions to develop, adapt, modify, and apply advance management principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment to improve program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of personnel management, EEO, and safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives.
  • Part-time or unpaid experience and volunteer work experience are also considered.
