Job Overview

The Senior Geospatial Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping Teren's geospatial analytics platform, Terevue, with next-generation hydrologic modeling capabilities. This position combines deep technical expertise with strategic product vision, helping translate cutting-edge open-source hydrology research into scalable and client-focused solutions. In this role you will use your technical prowess to develop high performance big data analytics. We embrace cloud computing and expect that you are familiar with parallelization and distributed processing patterns and can apply these patterns to geospatial problems.

This will be an integral role on the software engineering team. This individual will be central to how Teren, Inc. solves complex geospatial problems for the clients we serve. You will work directly with senior leadership to define and execute Teren's product roadmap, ensuring our geospatial software solutions advance both scientific rigor and business value. As a senior engineer, you'll guide architectural decisions, advance the scalability of our environmental and hydrologic models, and cultivate a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable solutions to solve geospatial problems that align with architectural and development standards.
  • Engage with R&D and subject matter experts to develop, train, test, and deploy production-grade open-source models
  • Work closely with senior leadership on product vision and roadmapping.
  • Author scalable and maintainable software solutions on top of our high performance, cloud-native computing platform.
  • Influence and review architectural designs to ensure that they are consistent, maintainable, flexible, and cost-effective.
  • Assess new technologies, tools, and software packages and implement them in DevOps and Software solutions.
  • Ensure software and data deliveries meet our high standards.
  • Champion knowledge sharing and mentoring of junior team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a computer science / engineering related field plus 6 to 8 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of open-source hydrology modeling (RichDem, Flow Direction, Flow Accumulation, CN infiltration, Manning Equation, etc.)
  • Experience with geospatial data and meteorological data is required.
  • Expertise in building data processing applications and services using Python.
  • Deep experience with open-source geospatial technologies and software packages such as gdal, pdal, numpy, python, rasterio, shapely, geopandas.
  • Strong influencing and consensus-building skills, and the adaptability to respond to change quickly.
  • Must be able to excel in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as a senior member of a small team.
  • Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and proficiently in a hybrid environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Extra Awesome Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS), containerization (ECS, EKS), storage (S3), and infrastructure as code (OpenTofu)
  • Proficient knowledge of Kubernetes and Ray Core
  • Experience with Machine Learning (LSTMs, RNNs, PINNS, etc.).
  • Experience with meteorological forcing and associated land-based models.
  • Publishing geospatial data through the Esri stack.
  • Location & Travel

  • This is a hybrid position (Lakewood, CO). Minimal Travel may be required for purposes of attending conferences and training events.

  • Base Annual Salary Range is between $130,000 and $150,000
