Job Overview

Performs as an emergency paramedic, responding to, assessing, rendering appropriate emergency care to, and transporting, patients with illnesses or injuries.

Salary

$22.36 hourly, plus :

  • $96.92 biweekly cafeteria benefit
  • Guaranteed holiday pay (up to 11 per calendar year)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certification; and
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida certification as a Paramedic; and
  • Possession of a valid American Heart Association approved Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; and
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

    Note : The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

  • Provides advanced life support emergency medical care within limits established by standing orders and protocols to include defibrillation, endotracheal intubation, surgical airways, rapid sequence induction, IV and IO infusions, medication calculation and administration, 12 lead EKG interpretation and transmission, transport destination determination, and any other.
  • Performs advanced or basic life support procedure mandated by the department or medical director.
  • Manages patient's care enroute to emergency facility, seeks online medical advice when needed and administers additional care as directed by physician.
  • Provides verbal, written and computer-generated reports pertaining to conditions and care of patients at emergency scene and transit, to include preparing appropriate follow-up reports.
  • Complies with all regulations concerning the handling of deceased persons to include notifying authorities, preserving evidence, and initiating appropriate documentation as required.
  • Responds to fires and assumes paramedical role on the fire ground as assigned by the Incident Commander.
  • Operates an emergency vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintains and reviews vehicle equipment inventory to ensure equipment condition and readiness.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Job Specifications

  • Considerable knowledge of diseases, emergency medical conditions and appropriate treatment procedures, to include knowledge of standing orders and protocols.
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing emergency vehicle operation.
  • Working knowledge of safe driving techniques for emergency vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of equipment used for patient care such as defibrillators and vital signs monitors.
  • Working knowledge of roads, streets, hospitals, schools, and other facilities within response area.
  • Working knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Skill in the placement of basic and advanced airway devices, initiating intravenous lines, and interpreting EKGs.
  • Ability to identify patient conditions based on signs and symptoms.
  • Ability to identify mechanical failures of equipment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry weights up to 90 pounds.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, non-verbally, and in writing.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability and willingness to perform housekeeping activities.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in a subtropical climate under adverse weather conditions and high noise levels.
