Senior Manager, TB&HIV R&D

Your Role

The Senior Manager partners primarily with Directors and Deputy Directors to drive strategy and execution across the team. This leader develops decision frameworks and conducts qualitative and quantitative analyses to inform strategic choices, then translates insights into coordinated implementation. You will co-create materials for annual planning and strategy reviews, co-chair learning sessions, and synthesize findings into clear recommendations. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning & Management, this Seattle-based role supports the TB&HIV R&D team, ensuring high-quality, on-time execution.

What You'll Do

Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Provide the DDSPM and leadership team with clear, challenging thought partnership; enable the development of coherent strategies, represent the R&D team and the Strategy, Planning & Management (SPM) function across division- and foundation-level forums as needed.
  • Design and implement strategies for the R&D team in close collaboration with the DDSPM and Leadership Team.
  • Lead and support components of Strategy Review & Annual Planning process.
  • Translate goals into a coherent, prioritized portfolio and investment plans and narrative.
  • Strengthen consistency, rigor, evaluation, and learning across investment portfolios.

Program Management & Planning

  • Design and facilitate key management processes (annual planning and budgeting, business performance measurement, scorecard management, resource allocation).
  • Lead large and / or complex projects supporting strategy development, resource allocation (financial and staffing), investment management, and performance management.
  • Establish and implement work plans; monitor achievements and decisions; lead partner communications.
  • Ensure alignment across strategy deliverables, portfolio planning, budget, and headcount requirements.
  • Partner with GH SPM to enable successful cross-division efforts.
  • Support the development of content for strategic conversation with leadership via presentations.
  • People Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of Senior Program Coordinators facilitating grant-making.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure effective coordination and execution of grant coordination activities.
  • Improve team efficiency by leading process design, tool implementation, analysis, reporting, and change management.
  • Set meeting cadence and agendas; facilitate for cross-portfolio learning, decision-making, and clear communication.
  • Foster diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices; seek input from and value the uniqueness of people across groups and cultures; challenge exclusionary practices or policies.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration & Business Operations

  • Design and leads special projects that support team operations and programmatic portfolios.
  • Support and optimize business processes, including investment management with the help of AI.
  • Maintain alignment with cross-foundation operational initiatives and integrate team processes to maximize impact.
  • Serve as primary liaison to FP&A, Grants & Contracts Services, and Legal on business processes, financial reporting, forecasting, and related systems / tools.
  • Your Experience

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience (e.g., business administration or related field).
  • Significant experience leading projects in a top-tier strategy consulting environment or equivalent role.
  • Experience in global health / development.
  • Experience in product development portfolio management.
  • Mastery of strategy development and end-to-end complex project management (process design, team structures, critical thinking, executive communications, senior stakeholder engagement).
  • Track record of inclusive leadership and team building, with a commitment to developing team to be high performers.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; able to synthesize for diverse audiences and influence senior leadership.
  • Literacy in global health product development.
  • Confirmed portfolio, people, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated rigor, outcomes-focused measurement, and cost-effective use of resources.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, adapt to change, and choose appropriate methods and procedures.
  • Facility with creating structures and frameworks that clarify decisions, trade-offs, and implications for financial and organizational resources.
  • Ability to alternate between critical thinking and high-quality execution.
  • Financial acumen, including budget development, financial analysis, and operational management.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
  • Cultural agility across a wide range of settings; demonstrates culturally sensitive behavior.
  • Commitment to the foundation's values, mission, and guiding principles; holds self to the highest ethical standards.
  • Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

    The salary range for this role is $186,400 to $288,800 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The salary range for this role in these locations is $203,100 to $314,900 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hire salaries are typically between the salary range minimum and midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
