Janitorial Worker
The State of Hawai'i is seeking applicants for the position of Janitorial Worker at the Women's Community Correctional Center in Kailua. This recruitment will establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
Supervises and participates in keeping assigned buildings and building areas clean and orderly, including heavy lifting, cleaning places and equipment which are not easily accessible, simple building repair work and operating industrial type cleaning equipment; and performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements :
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement : The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
General Experience : Two (2) years of janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting and cleaning of buildings.
Supervisory Aptitude : Applicants must possess the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision.
Driver's License : A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement : As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who : (1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution. (2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. (3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above. (4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment." Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening and an intensive background check.
