The Long School of Medicine (LSOM) at theUniversity of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (dba UT Health SanAntonio) seeks to hire a full-time dynamic physician leader to serve as the PediatricEmergency Medical Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Theposition is involved in all aspects of managing the Pediatric EmergencyDepartment and will work closely with the Chair of Emergency Medicine, UHS EMMedical Director and hospital administration. The new director will be integralin the opening of the new Pediatric ED as we complete construction of our newWomen’s and Children Hospital.
Optimal candidates will have an establishedtrack record of peer-reviewed research, excellence in education and outstandingclinical service. The successfulcandidate will join a diverse, enthusiastic group of academic EmergencyPhysicians. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and therequirements of LSOM.
JobResponsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, update and implement pediatric specific departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
- Work with hospital leadership to enhance pediatric ED volume, market share, and EMS volume
- Participate in departmental and hospital committees
- Assist in identifying staffing needs and support recruitment, interviewing, and retention efforts
- Provide support to the Emergency Medicine residency program and medical student rotations
- Attend monthly Emergency Department physician meetings, and present pediatric operations reports as needed
- Assist in the delivery of performance appraisals of the pediatric staff physicians
- Review and manage Pediatric Emergency Department patient and personnel complaints
- Participation in Departmental and Hospital Process Improvements and Quality Improvement efforts
- Continued involvement in scholarly activity as evidenced by scholarly publications, participation in specialty society organizations and/or peer-reviewed research funding
- Maintain professional affiliations and involvement at national, state and local organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
- Licensed for practice of medicine in the state of Texas
- Minimum of years of experience as a practicing emergency physician
- Minimum of years in a Track record of leadership roles in education at an academic medical center

Front-loaded Paid Time Off: to hours ( to days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: hours ( day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
