Senior Supplier Development Engineer – Fabrications / Machine Castings

Location : Lafayette, IN; Mossville, IL; Griffin, GA; Seguin, TX

Role Description

The primary responsibility of a Senior Supplier Development Engineer is to serve as the trusted advisor for the assigned supply base through the following responsibilities : assessing potential suppliers via on-site quality audits, driving implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP, assuring production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP submissions, and being recognized as an expert in supplier quality.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with suppliers and engineering to ensure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.
• Document process changes (PCN) with clear scope of current and future states after proposed changes; establish effective validation requirements and evaluate Cpk / Ppk validation data.
• Provide technical support during start-up activities and ongoing strategic support.
• Review APQP documentation (Process FMEA, Process Control Plans, Gage R&R). Participate in process FMEA for suppliers' manufacturing processes.
• Generate reports on supplier quality by monitoring defect rates and areas for improvement; guide suppliers to reduce these defect rates.
• Resolve problems between suppliers, plants, and engineering personnel, and between facilities.
• Research and assess potential vendors, and conduct supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.
• Coordinate with engineering on CPPD, NPI, CPI teams; support design-to-production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, and specifications approvals.
• Support suppliers in improving performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.

Compensation

Summary Pay Range : $126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, location, knowledge, skills, performance and experience. Salary is one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
