The Product Engineer will support the design, development, and optimization of product lines. This hands-on role will serve as a key link between product engineering, quality assurance, and production to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective products for all business units within DYWIDAG. This position requires onsite work in Bolingbrook, IL.

Essential Functions

  • Design, develop, implement, and optimize new and existing products.
  • Strong knowledge of steel material and sourcing.
  • Provide engineering support to the production team to resolve issues, improve efficiencies, and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, purchasing, operations, and vendors) to support product lifecycle management.
  • Evaluate product designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyze production data and recommend improvements for productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for product or process non-conformities.
  • Create and maintain documentation including work instructions, process flows, and product specifications.
  • Maintain database, create part numbers, and add them in Navision / ERP system.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Min 4–6 years of experience in a product engineering role, preferably in the construction materials or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ASTM, AISC codes and experience in their applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of design and detail of steel components such as hex nuts, couplers, turnbuckles, clevises, bearing plates, and related components, including weld design.
  • PE license in any state is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and its application to validate designs.
  • Working knowledge of ERP or Navision systems and production planning tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in a hands-on, fast-paced production environment.

  • Travel Requirements

  • Minimal travel required (up to 15%) for supplier visits, training, or support at other DYWIDAG facilities.
  • Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor.
  • Regularly required to bend, reach, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
