POSITION DETAILS
Position Summary
The Quality Systems Manager at our manufacturing facility oversees the activities of employees engaged in both Quality Control, but more focused on Quality Assurance. They set priorities, monitor workflow, and address quality issues when they arise. The Quality Systems Manager is responsible for setting priorities based on planning's input and ensuring these priorities are met. They have daily / weekly / Monthly meetings with their staff to maintain a consistent level of communication between their team, Leadership, and the other functional teams in the facility. The Quality Systems Manager maintains and reports out appropriate metrics for the department. They ensure compliance to of product and documentation meet customer requirements. In addition, they ensure the safety of workers in the organization by setting safety policies for the department.
Principal Activities
- Manage employees' daily activities to ensure production efficiencies.
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (Controlled Documents, Audits, Managers Meetings)
- Understanding of document revision controls.
- Ensure the teams meet the production schedule deadlines.
- Work with Planning and Manufacturing to set priorities.
- Provide daily / weekly metrics for throughput (Pareto, First Pass Yield FPY).
- Manage employees hours and schedule overtime as required.
- Inspect product to ensure contract and drawing requirements are met.
- Notify the appropriate support personnel when there are questions on product quality, drawing requirements, etc.
- Support Government and Customer source inspection.
- Hold daily / weekly team meetings (in-person, virtual, Teams, etc).
- Train employees in fundamentals of production inspection as well as cross train the staff in all facets of the inspection process.
- Assign tasks and projects to employees.
- Counsel employees and provide verbal or written disciplinary actions as required.
- Maintain work area, equipment and supplies in a safe and orderly condition.
- Set goals and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Report updates and problems or difficulties to the Sr. Quality Manager.
- Meet attendance and punctuality requirements for the position.
- Act as primary interface for suitors (ISO registrar, DCMA, Navy Shipbuilders), handling responses to CPARs / ISAs / NAVCRITs.
- Oversee Internal Audit Program
- Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management to improve first-pass yield and reduce NCRs.
- Promote a "Zero Escape" and "Legacy of Trust" mindset across all departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience in ISO 9001 : 2015ISO 9001 : 2015 Internal Auditor Experience, Certification preferred.Material Review Board (MRB) ExperienceNon-Conformance Reporting (NCR) and Corrective Action Reporting (CAR) experience.Corrective Action and Preventative Action experience (CAPA).Experience with direct supplier to DoD, Defense, Military, Navy preferred.Familiar with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) process preferred.Relevant experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment.Experience in a manufacturing machine shop and welding environments preferred.Direct hands-on experience working in a quality / inspection function.Results oriented, with sound judgment.Excellent demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Excellent demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and strategic skills.Superior interpersonal skills.Ability to perform multi-faceted projects in rapidly changing environment.Resourceful and well organized.Hands-on familiarity of inspection tools and gauging (calipers, micrometers, ring and plug gauges, bore micrometers, height gauges, etc.)Must have an understanding of how an ERP system functions.Must have strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Education / Certifications
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, with at least five years' relevant experience in hands on manufacturing or 10+ years' experience in a machine shop environment in a Quality role.Other
