Description :
Candidates must be able to circulate in the operating room.
Competency in normal newborn assessments and routine baby care is required.
Floating to postpartum on occasion is expected, which requires care for both infants and mothers.
The unit consists of 16 labor rooms and 9 antepartum rooms.
There are 3 operating room suites designated for C-sections.
The unit has a 7-bed triage area for assessing patients who are beyond 20 weeks of pregnancy with complaints.
There are 36 postpartum beds available.
The unit facilitates up to 400 births per month.
Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines : 1 : 1 to 2 for laboring patients and 1 : 2 to 3 for antepartum patients.
Registered nurses are required to titrate medications like Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate.
There is a charge nurse on each shift who carries an assignment.
Two OB technicians are present per shift to assist.
There is 24 / 7 in-house coverage by OB / neonatologists, including residents.
CRNAs are available on-site 24 / 7 for anesthesia support.
Telemonitoring technology is utilized in the recovery area after C-sections.
RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips.
The EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) system in use is Obix.
Shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1900 and from 1830 to 0700.
Weekend requirements include working every third weekend, with potential for every other weekend based on unit needs.
Holiday requirements involve one major and one minor holiday.
Registered nurses may occasionally float to assist as sitters elsewhere in the facility.
Surgical scrubs are provided for all personnel.
A total of 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation will be conducted.

Requests for time off must be communicated upfront, with exceptions for unforeseen circumstances.
The facility may cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
The charting system utilized is EPIC.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required for submission.
This position operates within an acute care setting and has a trauma level designation of 1.
