Manual Machinist – Mechanical Contractor (Shop-Based) Location : Hermiston, OR Job Type : Full-time Industry : Food & Beverage, Manufacturing, Infrastructure About the Role We are seeking a Manual Machinist to join our shop. This role involves operating manual machining equipment including lathes, press brakes, and plasma cutters to fabricate and repair stainless steel food-grade equipment, piping, flanges, and food processing machinery. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in precision machining and a strong understanding of food-grade fabrication standards. Core Responsibilities Machining Operations : Set up and operate manual lathes, press brakes, plasma cutters, and grinders to produce and modify metal components. Fabrication & Repair : Work on stainless steel assemblies, piping systems, flanges, and food-grade processing equipment. Blueprint Interpretation : Read and follow technical drawings and schematics to ensure accurate machining and fabrication. Precision Measurement : Use micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other tools to verify tolerances and dimensions. Safety & Cleanliness : Follow OSHA safety protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a clean and organized work area. Tool Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machining equipment to ensure optimal performance. Certifications : Machinist certificate or equivalent vocational training preferred. Soft Skills : Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and teamwork.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications Experience : Minimum 5 years in manual machining Able to set up machinery and mechanical systems using blueprints, layout plans, and precision tools. Technical Skills : Proficient with manual lathes, press brakes, plasma cutters, grinders, and drill presses. Skilled in working with stainless steel and food-grade materials. Capable of holding tolerances within 0.0005”.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00 / hr.
