Minimum Qualifications : Master's degree in business or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional appointment. Progression towards earning an advanced degree is expected in provisional faculty position. See Guidelines for Additional Requirements.

Position Summary : The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center seeks an experienced, results-driven management professional with strong business skills to serve the Dekalb area as a Business Consultant. A Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Business Consultant is a public service faculty position responsible for providing counseling and delivering programs to individuals, businesses, communities, organizations, and other public agencies in their assigned geographic territory. You'll work with business owners to provide guidance in areas such as financial analysis, business planning, marketing strategy, and operations management. You'll also develop and lead educational programs tailored to the needs of the local business community.

Location : This position is located in Tucker, Georgia. Multi-county travel is required.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : Strong knowledge of core business functions (finance, marketing, operations); excellent communication and project management skills; knowledge of University and SBDC programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality individual instruction and educational support to entrepreneurs, business owners, and business managers. Analyze situations, make recommendations, and educate clients on business plans, market feasibility, financial viability, operations management, and legal structures.
  • Develop and deliver high quality business training programs; generate curricula for programs, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Plan topics, agendas, instructors, materials, locations, times; create instructional materials; serve as instructor and recruit qualified outside instructors as needed; market programs to meet annual goals.
  • Develop specific areas of expertise within business development and create / deliver new training programs and tools; engage in research and co-consulting as needed.
  • Direct clients to appropriate sources of business information; disseminate information to the business community via various media.
  • Advocate for business development, expansion, and retention; collaborate with private sector, other economic development units, and State Government to improve Georgia's economy.
  • Engage in public relations activities (speeches, presentations, committee participation, discussions) to diverse audiences.
  • Support organizational strategic planning; contribute to annual action and marketing plans aligned with the strategic plan; develop work plans and professional development goals.
  • Assist in sponsorship strategies; seek / grant opportunities and co-sponsorship with private entities and government partners.
  • Document activities via Unity; maintain client files; provide impact information for SBA reporting and success stories.
  • Perform responsibilities efficiently and professionally; ensure programs are innovative, responsive, and of high quality; maintain positive relations with other institutions; represent the Area Director when required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications : Master's degree in business or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional appointment.
  • A master's degree is preferred; progression to advanced degree is encouraged.
