Municipal Engineer
Position Summary
A growing municipal engineering team is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead and support infrastructure projects that directly impact local communities. This role involves designing, managing, and overseeing a variety of public works projects—including roads, utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications—while collaborating with municipal leadership, planning boards, and construction teams. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the project manager and primary point of contact for assigned municipalities or public agencies.
- Coordinate and oversee all projects performed on behalf of the client to ensure a high level of satisfaction.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions that support infrastructure improvement and maintenance.
- Design transportation, utility, hydraulic, and facility systems using CAD and related engineering software.
- Calculate loads, grades, flow rates, and material specifications to determine project feasibility and design criteria.
- Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, blueprints, aerial images, and other engineering data.
- Conduct traffic, environmental, and impact studies to support project planning and approvals.
- Ensure all design activities comply with environmental, safety, and governmental regulations.
- Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Attend scheduled evening public meetings as Municipal Engineer or Land Use Board Engineer (additional stipend provided).
- Present reports on bid proposals, project updates, and development applications during public sessions.
- Provide technical guidance on design, construction practices, and capital program modifications.
- Support field inspection teams through data collection, shop drawing reviews, and client coordination.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.6+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably with municipal or public infrastructure projects.Proficiency with stormwater modeling software, Microsoft Office, and relevant design tools.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field visits and client meetings.Preferred Qualifications
Experience presenting in public forums or supporting planning / zoning boards.Familiarity with municipal capital programs and construction oversight.Location & Employment Type
Location : Morganville, NJSchedule : Primarily onsite; must be available for evening municipal meetings (additional $250 per meeting).Employment Type : Full-time, direct hireCompensation & Benefits
Pay Range : $92,000 – $151,800 annually
