Job Summary
The KY3 / KSPR newsroom in Springfield, MO, is seeking a dynamic morning break‑news / alert desk anchor. The anchor will be part producer and part breaking‑news anchor, selecting stories, ad‑libbing throughout a four‑hour morning newscast, and driving breaking news quickly with video, live cameras, supers, and social media. The ideal candidate will maintain urgency, bring enterprise‑driven stories when there is no breaking news, and help anchor shows on our streaming platform.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize, organize, and produce individual on‑air hits newscasts following the station brand and goals.
- Develop content through cameras, traffic websites, national feeds, affiliates, and independent sources.
- Write clearly, concisely, and conversationally and ad‑lib during all on‑air hits.
- Manage multiple simultaneous tasks – social media, website, on‑air, and stream production.
- Maintain current‑events knowledge, community issues, and an extensive local contacts list.
- Edit video with an eye for visual elements and graphics that make stories understandable to the viewer.
- Develop original story ideas for daily newscasts and work closely with producers on story treatment.
- Research social media posts and story ideas under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility.
- Shoot and edit yourself using our gear if necessary and use ENPS for scripting, including graphics and supers.
- Create a unique approach to all digital elements for the newscast, including Facebook, X, Instagram, and website.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, and perform regular beat checks.
- Demonstrate good news judgment, journalistic integrity, and professional ethical conduct at the station and in the community.
- Work with limited supervision and be willing to be out in the field live during big breaking news events.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or equivalent background.At least 2 years of anchoring and / or MMJ / reporting experience; prior on‑air experience in a newsroom preferred.Willingness to train on the digital desk switcher and audio board and use them daily.Ability to sit for extended periods and stand, walk, talk, reach, and crawl as required.Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Missouri license.Must work nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as required and be insurable.Gray Media provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
