Summary\n\nThe Program Assistant is responsible for providing personal care and assistance with activities of daily living to the participants of the center.The Program Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary care team and collaborates with team members to provide for the physical, mental, and social well-being of the participants.\n\nDuties\n\nSPECIFIC DUTIES ASSIGNED : \n\nAll duties are performed in such a way as to comply with local, state, and federal guidelines for licensure and safety standards.\n\n1.Provide personal care to participants, including ambulation, transferring, toileting, dressing, grooming, bathing.\n2.Assist and / or feed clients as needed.Serve meals and snacks.Be aware of special diets and food restrictions.\n3.Maintain a safe and secure facility, helping to provide a neat, clean and pleasant environment.Specifically : correct any hazards, participate in fire drills, follow safe food-handling methods, clean and supply bathrooms, dispose of trash safely, use Universal Precautions.\n4.Be responsible for participants' coats, handbags, and personal items.\n5.Record arrival and departure time of each participant daily.\n6.Report to the Registered Nurse any information received from caregivers, regarding a participant's condition, medication, needs, or schedule.\n7.Be alert for, and report to the Registered Nurse, any changes in a participant's physical, mental, or functional status.\n8.Obtain, record, and report participants' vital signs as directed by the Registered Nurse.\n9.Complete other records and reports as directed by the Registered Nurse.\n10.Interact with the participants during daily activities to encourage socialization and participation.\n11.Assist with setting out, cleaning up, and storing all activity supplies.\n12.Maintain confidentiality of participant, staff, and organizational information.\n13.Update and improve skills and knowledge by participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and staff development opportunities.\n14.Keep informed of agency policies and procedures and implement with staff and participants.\n15.Demonstrate leadership and serve as a role model for other staff.\n16.Perform other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Registered Nurse or Executive Director.\n\nRequirements\n\nQUALIFICATIONS : \n\nGENERAL : All staff members must be of good character and reputation; competent, qualified and capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; willing and able to accept training and supervision; be considerate, understanding and respectful of the rights, dignity, and sensitivities of persons who are aged, infirm, and disabled; clean and well groomed; be able to speak, ready, understand, and write in English as necessary to carry out their job responsibilities; be able to understand and apply the standards in this chapter as they relate to their respective responsibilities; able to meet the requirements specified in the Regulation for Background Checks for Adult Day Care Centers; able to meet requirements for TB screening.\n\nEDUCATION : Must have a high school diploma and previous experience with direct care of elderly and disabled persons. Certified Nurse Aide certificate as issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing.Must be CPR or First Aid certified or willing to obtain training upon hire.\n\nBenefits\n\nNo evening, weekend or holiday hours.
