Aquatics Lifeguard Position
This position assists in the complete operation and maintenance of the City of Lakeland aquatics facilities. Keeps the environment healthy and safe for public use. Lifeguards and assists with teaching swimming lessons to public pool users. Assists the Aquatics Supervisory Staff with any other work-related tasks. This is a part time temporary position. Applicants must possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding (CPR/First Aid/AED) certification and attach a copy of it to this application. Essential functions include serving as a Lifeguard and Public Safety promoter, performing professional rescuer duties as needed, maintaining the health and safety of all users of the facilities and all employees, assisting in supervising the enforcement of rules, regulations, and policies, assisting with teaching swim lessons of all levels, reporting to work to assist at all special events, programs, and holiday open hours, ensuring proper pool maintenance, reporting all needed repairs and troubleshooting, completing statistical record keeping, maintaining security of the control area, collecting fees, possessing a visible maturity and responsibility level, and may be required to work overtime or alternate hours.
Additional functions include being prompt and regular in attendance, assisting in delivering and lifeguarding programs and special events, assisting in public relations, and performing related work as required.
Qualifications include being 16 years of age, possessing or obtaining American Red Cross Lifeguarding (CPR/First Aid/AED) certification, maintaining a valid telephone number, passing a pre-employment swim test and personal interview, being available to attend all In-Service training, possessing transportation for multi-work site schedule, and having customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding, surveillance, and rescue techniques, knowledge of the principles and practices of facility rules, policies, and procedures, skills in office-related tasks, ability to instruct and evaluate program participants, and working environment/physical requirements.
