Housing Specialist

As a Bilingual Housing Specialist , you'll embark on an exciting journey to support those in need. Using innovative approaches like Diversion and Rapid Resolution, you'll help people find alternative housing solutions outside of the traditional homeless crisis response system. Engage in heartfelt conversations, listen actively, and use your problem-solving prowess to guide households towards safe and immediate housing alternatives within their social network.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage with participants to understand their unique dynamics, communication styles, and cultural backgrounds.
• Utilize harm reduction strategies, motivational interviewing, housing first practices, non-violent crisis intervention techniques, critical time intervention, and trauma-informed care.
• Ask open-ended and personal questions sensitively to uncover client needs effectively.
• Identify and address safety or health issues during housing identification.
• Explore housing options outside the traditional homeless services system, regardless of duration of homelessness, family size, mental health, or substance abuse issues.
• Meditate between households and property owners, family, or friends to resolve housing crises.
• Partner with legal service providers to resolve housing issues.
• Provide in-field support to participants.
• Acquire resources and make successful referrals, ensuring effective follow-up for resource access.
• Negotiate agreements between participants and hosts, including employment, medical / mental health / substance abuse issues, and household chores.
• Document all interactions thoroughly and timely, adhering to applicable guidelines, laws, and policies.
• Assist participants in budgeting and determine minimal assistance needed for successful housing or crisis resolution.
• Continuously explore new approaches and develop creative solutions.
• A minimum of 1 year experience working with homeless individuals.
• Bilingual in Spanish, required
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver license and pass tuberculosis skin test
• Must be willing to travel in the field and mileage is reimbursed.

Monday to Friday 8am -5pm

Pay Details : $22.00 to $25.00 per hour
